Charan is a senior attorney in EMH’s San Francisco Bay Area office whose practice focuses on the representation of insurance companies in state and federal courts. During her career, Charan has drafted and prevailed on numerous state and federal court appellate briefs, as well as drafted and argued motions for summary judgment. For more than twenty years, Charan has handled insurance matters, including those involving life, health, disability and ERISA-governed policies as well as professional liability, personal property and general liability coverage. Charan litigates high-value coverage matters as well as rescission and interpleader cases.
Continuing her record of success, Charan recently obtained summary judgment in favor of an ERISA-governed disability plan on the grounds that the settlement agreement entered between the employee and his employer in a wrongful termination action barred his lawsuit for disability benefits under the plan, and this judgment was affirmed by the Ninth Circuit.
With a solid litigation background, Charan is a go-to attorney on the firm’s trial team and enjoys drafting and arguing law and motion matters. She has prepared dispositive motions in cases ranging from construction defect to the defense of professional sports teams. Charan also is active on the firm’s subrogation docket and assists health carriers enforce their reimbursement and subrogation rights.
